1/2 marathon: check!
When my husband asked me if I wanted to do the Baltimore 1/2 marathon back in the spring I reluctantly said yes. I really don’t like being out of my comfort zone and he knows that. I’m thankful that he pushes me though because otherwise I’d be on my couch watching HGTV eating chips.
I had just finished completing my first 10k and figured since I had plenty of time to train it wouldn’t be a problem. Typical me, I wasn’t as disciplined in my training as I probably should have been and the race course proved to be challenging. The longest I had run before today was 8 miles (and I ran a lot on the treadmill…nice and flat).
In case you can’t read the bottom of the medal says, “What hills don’t kill you make you stronger.”
Those hills kicked my butt! My good friend from work and I started out the race together and her steady determination on all those hills kept us running with good time until about the halfway mark when I fell behind. I pushed myself through the remainder of the course following my own advise I gave to my daughter for Cross Country. Walk if you must, but as soon as you can start running.
My official time was 2:35 which I am super proud of since I had imagined myself crossing the finish line at 3 hours. It feels so good to say I’ve completed a 1/2 marathon! Something I never imagined I would accomplish.
That’s one more thing to add and check off of my list of things-not-originally-on-my-bucket-list.
